Is place dead? Have we lost all prentension?
Or are we merely observing in haughty silence the actions of those who
scurry beneath us?

It's a game.
Whoever breaks down and posts first loses and has to buy drinks all
around.
I'll have a cuba libre thank you.

Oh well.
What's the recipe for it?

Damned embargo. The US calls it "rum'n'Coke", sometimes with a squeeze
of lime.

tut!
The squash of lime is absolutely mandatory!

Usually I just tell bartenders exactly that, a rum and coke with a
squash of lime. The ones that reach for the Rose's bottle don't get a
tip.

I generally prefer my rum with tonic, as I find coke overpowers the flavor
of the rum. But I absolutely agree that a twist of an actual lime is
mandatory.

Depends on the rum dunnit?
For me speedrack rum goes with coke.
Really good rum goes in a glass.
Stuff like Bacardi or Captain Morgan where it is usually better than
the shite on the speedrack, but certainly not worth drinking straight
up can go into mixed drinks where you get more of the rummy goodness
coming through than with coke. Rum Martinis and suchlike.

Had a very nifty thing bought for me once, it seemed to be a Silver
Fizz made with white rum and lime instead of gin and lemon. I asked
the bartender and he just told me to pay attention to the hot babe who
bought it for me rather than inquiring about the drink. Which made me
abandon the drink and run away very fast. Sad, but I distrust such
conspiricies. Still wonder what the drink was though.

That's why it works better with a dark rum

Bacardi Select works nicely for that. It's about the same color as cola
anyway. I like the Select for my "rail rum". It's cheap and has a nice
flavor in spite of that, so it's a win. I'll save the good stuff for
Good Friends.

Which reminds me, I should get another bottle of Sea Wynde to break in
the new place properly.

My gf brought back a bottle of Haitian rum for me. I haven't popped it
open yet, but if they make their rum like they make their coffee, I'm
looking forward to it.

If it's at all like Rhum Barbancourt, it'll be Good Stuff. Though from
tasting the three grades of the gold RBs available in the US, I find the
8-year better than the 15-year. The older has had all the tasty bits
aged out of it.

I think that the rest have all gone Emo or something, leaving me as the
one true Goth, ruling in splendid darkness and isolation.

Or something like that anyway.
